"NONE OF AZERBAIJANIS WHO FELL FOR MOTHERLAND WILL BE FORGOTTEN”, LEYLA ALIYEVA
Moscow. 28 February (AzerTAc). Azerbaijani youth of Russia revered memory of the victims of the Khojaly tragedy. An action dedicated to the anniversary of the tragedy and presentation of the website of the “Justice for Khojaly” campaign (www.justiceforkhojaly.orq ) initiated by chief Coordinator on Intercultural Dialogue of OIC Youth Forum Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva was held in Moscow.
Addressing the event, Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva called this tragedy a crime against
humanity. “It was a result of aggressive policy, nationalism and ethnic cleanse
pursued by Armenian occupants at the territory of sovereign Azerbaijan. It is
disaster and grief of hundreds and thousands people. It is particularly tragic when
innocent people are killed. Armenian armed forces deliberately killed the civilians
- women, old people and children, who did not pose any military threat, Head of the
Heydar Aliyev Foundation Office in Russian Federation Leyla Aliyeva said. The
commemorative ceremony was organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the
Azerbaijani Youth Organization in Russia and the Organization of the Islamic
Conference (OIC) Youth Forum.
Aliyeva said Azerbaijani people will never condone with occupation of their native
lands and will restore the country`s territorial integrity. “Today we are
commemorating all those who were killed during the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict
over Nagorno-Karabakh, victims of the Khojaly tragedy and once again urge the
international community to give legal and moral assessment to this tragedy,” Aliyeva
said.
“None of Azerbaijanis who fell for native lands will be forgotten. Azerbaijan`s
territorial integrity will be restored and justice will triumph,” Aliyeva said.
Justice for Khojaly web site was presented as part of the large-scale campaign
dedicated to the 17th anniversary of Khojaly genocide. The commemorative event began
with a minute of silence in memory of the Khojaly victims. A documentary titled
“Khojaly. Tragedy of a Town”, shot by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, was
demonstrated. The film tells about genocide of Azerbaijanis and history of the
Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.
Yuri Pompeyev, a writer, author of “Bloody Pool of Karabakh” book, who first
protested against the genocide of Azerbaijanis of Khojaly, shared his memories of
the bloody events of Feb. 26, 1992.
A documentary film told about tolerance of the Azerbaijani people. A photo
exhibition on the Khojaly tragedy was organized in the foyer. Finally, books,
magazines and brochures were distributed among visitors and participants.
