AZERBAIJAN-JORDAN INTERGOVERNMENTAL COMMISSION ON TRADE, ECONOMIC AND TECHNICAL COOPERATION HOLDS FIRST MEETING
Baku, 28 February (AzerTAc). An Azerbaijan-Jordan intergovernmental commission on trade, economic and technical cooperation has held its first meeting in Amman.
The Azerbaijani co-chair of the commission, economic development minister Shahin
Mustafayev led a large delegation of officials of ministries of foreign affairs,
health, communication and information technologies as well as the National Bank and
State Civil Aviation for the two-day event.
In his speech at the meeting, Mustafayev praised the Azerbaijani and Jordanian
leaders` contribution to developing and expanding relations between the two
countries.
The Minister informed the Jordanian delegation about Azerbaijan`s economic progress
whose foundations he said “were laid by founder of the modern independent
Azerbaijan, nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev”. “President Ilham Aliyev is today
successfully continuing this policy” the Azeri minister added.
Mustafayev stressed the importance of developing economic cooperation, saying “the
most crucial task we face is to increase the level of our economic relations to that
of political one”. “Our countries do have potential to do this” said the Azerbaijani
Minister.
Jordanian co-chair of the commission, Minister of Industry and Trade Amir Hadidi
said Jordan is keen to expand the scope of economic cooperation with Azerbaijan.
Following the co-chairs` speeches Azerbaijani and Jordanian delegations exchanged
views on prospects for boosting bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade,
economy, industry, energy, ICT, agriculture, transport, culture, tourism, science,
education and health. The meeting ended with the signing of a final protocol.
On the sidelines of the event Azerbaijani and Jordanian business people came
together to discuss opportunities to invest in their countries` economies. The Azeri
businessmen also visited several industrial and trade enterprises.
As part of his trip to Amman Shahin Mustafayev met with Jordan`s Prime Minister
Nader Dahabi on prospects for boosting bilateral economic cooperation.
