Health Minister announces success of Egyptian Conjoined Twins

Riyadh, March 01, SPA -- Minister of Health Dr. Abdullah Rabeeah, the head of the multi-disciplinary medical team has announced the successful completion of Egyptian Conjoined Twins (Hassan & Mahmoud) Separation surgery and said it is not only acknowledged by a few people but by all people of the nation and the homeland.

"It is a moment of pride and a fine humanitarian message of our
religion (Islam) and its noble principles which do not differentiate
between a country, a religion or a sect," the Minister of Health said
during a press conference here Saturday evening after the surgery,
which is the 21st in a series of conjoined twins separation.


Dr. Al Rabeeah said the two boys have been shifted to the "PICU"
and they are in safe and stable condition and in need of pain-killers
and the post-surgery medical attention and care.

The Health Minister praised the multi-disciplinary team in charge of
twins conjoined separation who are enriched with 20 years experience.
"This team is my school. I will not abandon them and they will not
leave me."

He also e thanked the media who covered the event from the early
moments of the Saturday morning when the surgery got underway.

On behalf of the Egyptian people, Aisha Abdel-Hadi, the Egyptian
Minister of Manpower and Immigration, expressed their thanks and
appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah
Bin Abdulaziz for his generous gesture and care as well as his royal
directives to carry out an operation to separate the Egyptian Siamese
twins at King Abdulaziz Medical City of the National Guard.

She also commended Dr. Abdullah Rabeeah and the rest of the surgical
team members and said "I expect this experiment to be examined
globally."

On their part, members of the medical team said the process is
thankfully devoid of any surprises, and lasted one and a half hour
less than the time
expected and pre-determined. They pointed out that the two children
will be able to sustain reproduction abilities, Allah willing.
