UAE TO FLUSH OUT ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS

By Muin Abdul Majid

DUBAI, March 2 (Bernama) -- United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities are
tracking down violators of the country's residency law.

To this end, permanent and random checkpoints would be set up across the
country in the coming days, Brigadier Nasser Al Awadhi Al Menhali, acting
director-general of the Federal Department of Naturalisation and Residency at
the Interior Ministry, told Khaleej Times daily.

"These checkpoints will be set up in populated areas, farms and areas known
to have large numbers of violators," he said.

Saying that up to 50 checkpoints could be set up in each target area, Al
Menhali advised residents to keep their identity papers with them, such as their
labour card and a copy of their visa.

A widespread search for illegals in industrial areas in the emirate of
Ajman was conducted last week, the newspaper said.
