Phuket airport upgraded to cater Songkran revellers

PHUKET, March 17 (TNA) - Phuket International Airport has widened its passenger terminal to cater to expected rising passengers for the upcoming Songkran festival. Nitinai Sirismatthakarn, president of Airports of Thailand Public Co., Ltd. said under the development plan aimed at serving increasing numbers of passengers, the first phase of the enlarging area at the passenger waiting lounge was opened last month. The 5,000- square- metre space could now serve up to 3,500 people on increased from 2,000 passengers earlier. The airport on Friday opened two more boarding gates. The lounge area for outbound passengers and two more luggage belts will be increased and they will be operational early next month to cater for travellers during the Thai New Year festival. (TNA)
