MALAYSIANS NO LONGER KEEN ON EATING DURIAN?

KANGAR (Malaysia), March 3 (Bernama) -- Will the durian remain the king of
fruits if Malaysians, especially the young generation, are no longer keen on
savouring it?

That is the question that has risen after a Federal Agriculture Marketing
Authority (Fama) survey found that enthusiasm for the fruit had been on the
decline over the years.

Hence, Fama director-general Mohamed Shariff Abdul Aziz said efforts,
including campaigns, to promote the durian were being undertaken to restore the
people's enthusiasm for it.

"The survey over the past few years found that Malaysians under 20 years of
age have become less interested in the durian," he told reporters after a
meeting with 'Sala' mango cultivators in Panggas in this capital city of
northern state of Perlis, Monday.

However, he said the enthusiasm for the durian among people aged 50 and
above remained unchanged.
