Toyota Remains Top New Vehicle Seller in Australia in Feb.
Sydney, March 4 (Jiji Press)--Toyota Motor Corp. <7203> remained
the top new vehicle seller in Australia in February, industry data showed
Wednesday.
The leading Japanese automaker sold 14,274 units for a market share
of 20.3 pct, well ahead of GM Holden Ltd., a unit of General Motors Corp. of
the United States, with 9,029 units for a 12.9 pct share, and Ford Motor Co.
with 7,396 units for a 10.5 pct share, according to the Federal Chamber of
Automotive Industries data.
Mazda Motor Corp. <7261> which overtook Ford in January, fell back
to rank fourth, selling 6,376 units for a 9.1 pct share. Nissan Motor Co.
<7201> sold 4,441 vehicles and ranked fifth, followed by Mitsubishi Motors
Corp. <7211> with 4,301 units and South Korea's Hyundai Motor Co. with 4,151
units.
Honda Motor Co. <7267> ranked eighth with 3,445 units, followed by
Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. <7270> with 2,848 units.
Overall new vehicle sales in Australia in February were down 21.9
pct from a year before as the reporting month had one fewer selling day. The
February sales constitute an increase of 4.7 pct from the previous month in
seasonally adjusted terms.
