Seoul stocks up 0.92 pct in late morning
SEOUL, March 4 (Yonhap) -- Reversing earlier losses, South Korean stocks climbed
0.92 percent late Wednesday morning on exporters' strong overseas performances,
analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) added 9.43 points to
1,035 as of 11:20 a.m.
"Investors got a boost from a string of news on solid overseas performances by
local exporters despite a bleak global market," said Oh Jae-yol, an analyst at
IBK Securities.
Market leader Samsung Electronics and major shipbuilders led the gains. Top
automaker Hyundai Motor also gathered ground on news that its February U.S. sales
remained even from a year earlier despite shrinking overall sales in the world's
biggest market.
The won was trading at 1,550.5 won to the U.S. dollar as of 11:20 a.m., up 2.5
won from Tuesday's close.
