Azerbaijan`s Ganja submits bid for 2019 European City of Sport title

Baku, May 2, AZERTAC Azerbaijan`s second largest city, Ganja has submitted a bid to receive the European City of Sport title for 2019. On this occasion, head of Ganja City Executive Authority Elmar Valiyev met with president of European Capitals and Cities of Sport Federation (ACES Europe) Gian Francesco Lupattelli, vice-president of the organization John Swanson, member of the Board of Directors Lukáš Vorel-Adams, Head of International Development Department Xavier Rodrigo and Secretary General Hugo Alonso. Elmar Valiyev briefed the delegation on Ganja`s history and achievements. He pointed out a number of international projects implemented in the city in recent years. The European delegation was also informed about sports facilities operating in Ganja, conditions created at secondary and higher educational schools, sporting facilities constructed in public parks and alleys. According to the ACES Europe rules, the special promotional websites to be created for the advertising of the city of Ganja which bids for European City of Sport title in 2019, will feature information about city sports events taking place in the city throughout the year. The activities of volunteer groups will also be used during the preparation and implementation of sporting events in the city of Ganja. The coordination work will be carried out by Ganja European Youth Capital 2016 Public Union and Ministry of Youth and Sport Ganja City Central Department. ACES Europe is a non-profit association based in Brussels which assigns every year the recognitions of European Capital, City, Community and Town of Sport. The allocation of these recognitions are done by ACES Europe, according to the principles of responsibility and ethics, being aware that sport is a factor of aggregation of the society, improvement in the quality of life, psycho-physical well-being and complete integration within social classes in the community. The cities and towns compete during the year for becoming in the best city preparing a summary file of activities which will be evaluated by independent body.
