SET UP AUXILIARY POLICE TO COMBAT SCHOOL BULLIES
KUALA LUMPUR, March 7 (Bernama) -- A special auxiliary police unit should be
set up to combat the menace of school bullies in problematic schools said Noor
Nirwandy Mat Noordin, Project Director of the Malaysian Muslim Consumer
Association (PPIM).
"The units, given authority powers, can be placed according to districts
where such cases are common so that victims of bullies can immediately contact
the auxiliary police units for immediate assistance," Noor Nirwandy said in a
statement here Friday.
Another step that PPIM suggested was to set up detention centres that double
up as counseling centres in schools identified with such problems so that
classes would not be disrupted by their actions, he said.
The Education Ministry must also be serious in combating school children who
are truant and gangsterism because such occurrences are still rife in schools.
Noor Nirwandy said the menace of school bullies can be curbed with the
cooperation of all the involved parties like parents, Non Governmental
Organisations, discipline teachers and authorities.
He said the monitoring process inside and outside the school compound must
be increased because teachers do not have much powers to take action against
students who behaved aggressively.
Discipline teachers must also undergo relevant physical and mental courses
and training to face indiscipline in schools.
