M'SIAN PM WISHES MERITUS RACING A SUCCESSFUL SEASON
PUTRAJAYA, March 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad
Badawi Friday handed over the "Jalur Gemilang" (Malaysian flag) flag to Meritus
Racing and wished the team success in the upcoming race here as well as in
future races.
The team will be racing in two support categories of the Formula One
Grand
Prix at the Sepang International Circuit on April 3-5, namely the GP2 Asia
Series and the Formula BMW Pacific.
"I hope the team will be able to show good performance at the Sepang race
and also in future races," the prime minister said at the ceremony held at the
compound of his office in Perdana Putra here.
Abdullah also commended the team for its numerous successes at the
international level.
The Meritus Racing is the sole Asian team licensed to race in the GP2 Asia
Series and has won 32 races since 12 years ago, including six Formula BMW
Pacific championships.
The GP2 Asia Series has been the platform for racers to break into the
prestigous world of F1 racing and among those who have successfully done so are
Narain Kartikeyan of India and Takuma Sato of Japan.
Meritus Racing manager Firhat Mokhzani said the team had made a thorough
preparation for the race in Sepang next month.
The Sepang race is the fifth round of the GP2 Asia Series this season.
