MINISTER TO LAUNCH BERNAMA'S "MOBILE NEWSROOM" VIA BLACKBERRY WEDNESDAY

KUALA LUMPUR, March 10 (Bernama) -- Information Minister Ahmad Shabery
Cheek will launch Bernama's "Mobile Newsroom", a real-time, online news service
via the Blackberry mobile device, in the Parliament lobby here Wednesday.

The new service is part of Bernama's commitment to keeping abreast with
advances in mobile technology for the benefit of its subscribers.

"Mobile Newsroom" enables users to receive news round-the-clock, just like
how they will receive information on a personal computer 24 hours a day, seven
days a week.

Unlike news via SMS, which is limited in scope because of space constraints,
the "Mobile Newsroom" service allowed users to receive the news content in full,
Bernama Editor-in-Chief Yong Soo Heong said Tuesday.

This also put "Mobile Newsroom" subscribers on par with the editors of
media organisations in terms of the time and content that they receive each
minute from Bernama, he said.

Subscribers can also select the news that they want to receive from various
categories such as general news, economic news, political news and world news.

They can also get urgent alerts on major announcements from around the world
via Bernama's association with Reuters.

Currently available with Blackberry devices, this "email push technology"
news service can also be received by other smart phones through subscription
from Bernama.

Yong said "Mobile Newsroom" had been tailored to meet the information needs
of busy officials who often had little time as a result of their pressing
commitments and schedules.

"As long as they have 3G coverage, they will be kept informed of the latest
developments in Malaysia or other parts of the world. It is like taking your
newsroom wherever you go," he said.

In conjunction with the launch, Bernama is offering a free Blackberry Bold
device for new subscribers who sign up for the annual news subcription package.
