AZERI VERSION OF HAFIZ PASHAYEV`S RACING UP HILL LAUNCHED

Baku, March 13 (AzerTAc). An Azerbaijani version of deputy minister of foreign affairs, rector of the Diplomatic Academy Hafiz Pashayev`s book Racing Up Hill has been launched at the Azerbaijan Languages University`s American center.
Opening the launch ceremony, Chairman of the US-Educated Azerbaijan Alumni Association Jeyhun Karamov spoke of the diplomatic carrier of Hafiz Pashayev, Azerbaijan`s first ambassador to the United States. Karimov said “the growing interest in the book necessitated its translation into Azerbaijani.”
Other speakers at the event, including vice-rector of the Azerbaijan Languages University Natig Yusifov, head of Azerbaijan Marketing Society Rahim Huseynov, rector of the State Economic University Shamsaddin Hajiyev, professor at Baku State University Abuzar Khalafov and translator Khumar Huseynova sang the praises of the book.
Hafiz Pashayev spoke of the years of his diplomatic carrier in the United States of America.
He recalled nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev`s trip to Washington in 1997. Mr. Pashayev also recalled President Ilham Aliyev`s visit to the USA in 2006, saying “his meetings with President Bush and other top officials marked a new page in the bilateral relations.”
The Racing Up Hill is the first book to dwell into an in-depth analysis of U.S.-Azerbaijan relations and their development since 1992. The book was first published in English in 2006, and includes Mr. Pashayev`s speeches and public presentations at American universities, think tanks and business forums in over thirty U.S. states and a number of articles, interviews and statements that appeared in the U.S. press. It consists of three chapters, first (1993-1994) called “Putting Azerbaijan on Washington`s Map”, second (1995-2001) “Developing Strong U.S.-Azerbaijan Relations” and third (2001-2006) “From Cooperation and Partnership to Strategic Relationship”.
