VAGIF MUSTAFAZADE’S COMMEMORATION PARTY DUE IN BAKU

Baku, 13 March (AzerTAc). The commemoration evening to mark the 69th anniversary of Vagif Mustafazade will be held at his Home Museum in Baku on March 16, State Museum of Azerbaijan Musical Culture said. Vagif Mustafazade was an outstanding Azerbaijani jazz pianist and composer, famous for fusing jazz and traditional Azerbaijani folk music known as Mugham. He has gained popularity even outside of Azerbaijan as a great jazzman. His music is still being performed not only in Azerbaijan, but also in Poland, Germany, France and other countries. Apart from the solo career, Mustafazade also wrote music for theatrical performances and documentary films. He was awarded as laureate at jazz festival Tallinn-66 and was named the best pianist at Tbilisi-78 jazz fest. Also Mustafazade won the first prize at the Eight International Competition of Jazz Composers for his composition "Waiting for Aziza" in Monaco in 1979.
Vagif Mustafazade won hearts of music lovers by means of his originality, virtuosity and perfect harmony. He has become a founder of ethnic jazz in Azerbaijan and was the first to use the Azerbaijani national melodies in jazz music. Essentially, his jazz was the first to be built upon the native music of the East. He is the author of numerous jazz compositions and also the symphonic music.
