PM attends Mekong-Japan Summit in Tokyo

BANGKOK, Oct 8 (TNA) – Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha on Monday morning left Bangkok to attend the 10th Mekong-Japan Summit in Tokyo from Oct 8-10. Gen Prayut is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting his Japanese counterpart today. The Mekong-Japan summit was initiated by Japan in 2008, comprising six member countries, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand and Japan with an aim to boost economic, social and cultural cooperation. The cooperation under the Mekong-Japan framework has been intended to improve livelihood of people in the Mekong River region and to reduce the gap in development among ASEAN countries. Thailand is the development partnership of Japan and donor country to help countries in the Mekong Region, working with Japan under bilateral and trilateral frameworks. The cooperation framework with the countries in the Mekong Region is important to Japan as trade and investment between both sides has expanded continuously. (TNA)
