CENTER FOR STRATEGIC STUDIES UNDER PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN CONVENES ROUNDTABLE ON STATE OF GLOBAL ENERGY MARKET AND ENERGY POLICY OF NEW US ADMINISTRATION
Baku, 16 March (AzerTAc). The Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan today has organized a roundtable discussion on “the state of global energy market and the energy policy of the new U.S. Administration.”
Director of the Center Dr. Elkhan Nuriyev said the roundtable aims to discuss various pressing issues, including influence of world economic crisis on global energy system, energy policy of great powers, strategic views of the western countries on global energy policy and role of oil producing countries.
He said Azerbaijan is currently playing an important role in global energy policy.
“Azerbaijan, which is the leader country in the South Caucasus, has strengthened its position in the system of the world economy”, he added.
Director of the Center for Energy, Marine Transportation and Public Policy at the Columbia University, USA, Dr. Albert Bressand, made a presentation covering global energy scene, the new US energy policy and the opportunity for constructive energy relations in Eurasia.
He touched upon world economic crisis, its consequences, as well as influence on global energy market, and preliminary elements of the US president Obama`s energy program.
Other speakers, including Fariz Ismayilzade, director of the Division of Advanced Foreign Programs at Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy, Alan Eyre, energy officer of US Embassy in Baku, Dr. Eldar Shahbazov, adviser to the First Vice-President of Azerbaijan State Oil Company, Dr. Rustam Mammadov, head of the International Law Department at Baku State University, Dr. Sabit Bagirov, Director of the Center for Economic and Political Researches, expressed their views on the above mentioned questions.
