INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON MUGHAM COMMENCED IN BAKU
Baku, 18 March (AzerTAc). An international scientific symposium has commenced at the National Museum of Azerbaijan History here today as part of the International Festival “The World of Mugham.”
Opening the symposium, president of the festival, First Lady of Azerbaijan, president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva said this grandiose event devoted to mugham, one of the brightest pearls of the Azerbaijani culture, will become a new stage in history of this ancient genre of the national musical art.
She mentioned that this symposium shows how valuable and interesting the mugham is not only for the Azerbaijani culture and science but also for the global music community.
Also speaking at the opening ceremony were representative of UNESCO Jean During, Vice-President of the International Council for Traditional Music Wim Van Zanten and president of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Mahmud Karimov.
At a plenary session, scholars from Azerbaijan, Germany, China, Canada and Tajikistan delivered reports.
The symposium will end with a “round-table” meeting on March 20.
