Spreading awareness of water conservation
(KPL) There is a need for the young people in the world to understand the importance of water and to be aware of water conservation.
On 21 March, the Lao Youth Union, Clean Water Supply Centre, Save Environment Centre and Youth Union of Vientiane celebrated the World Water Day at Patouxay Park.
This event was attended by Standing Deputy Prime Minister, Somsavat Lengsavad, the Deputy Mayor of Vientiane, Somvady Nathavong, Deputy Secretary of Youth of Vientiane, a representative of UNICEF and young people from four districts in Vientiane.Mr Somvandy Nathavong said that the aim of this ceremony is to raise the awareness of young people on the importance of water and environment and the living conditions of human beings and animals so that they do not become extinct.
Mr Somvandy said that there is a need to improve the water resource conservation within the boundaries of the nation and the Mekong Sub-region and so a set of rules on usage of water should be drafted.
Mr Somvandy urged the various sectors to work together on water source conservation and he also said such an awareness should be imparted to the children, family and community.
