IPB TEAM ADVANCES TO FINAL OF INT`L FOOD TECHNOLOGY CONTEST

Bogor, Indonesia, March 25 (ANTARA) - An IPB (Bogor Institute of Agriculture) team advanced to the final of a competition organized by the Institute of Food Technology Student Association's Developing Solutions for Developing Countries.

The five-member IPB team presented an instant noodle made of corn good for pregnant women because the product is rich of protein and iron.

The team consists of Galih Nugroho, Ari Try Purbayanto, Riza Aris Apriady, Catherine Haryasyah, and Kamalita Pertiwi, all of them are students of IPB's agriculture technology faculty.

Galih Nugroho said the proposal that his team submitted was entitled "Healthy Instant Noodle from Corn with High Protein and Rich Iron for Pregnant Women to Prevent Lost Generation in Southeast Asia".

The IPB team and several other winning teams including from the US, managed to beat proposals presented by teams from China, Mexico, South Africa, Italy, the Netherlands, Columbia, Lebanon.

The competition is part of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Annual Meeting and Food Expo, which will be held held in Anaheim, California, the USA, June 6-9, 2009. ***
