Lao National Commission for Drug control and Supervisor delegation back from Austria

(KPL) A Lao delegation of the Lao National Commission for Drug Control and Supervisor led by its President Mr. Soubanh Sirithirath arrived here early this week after ending its attending the 52nd session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) held in Vienna, Austria.
According to the source from the Lao National Commission for Drug Control and Supervisor, the highlight of the session, which ran from 11 to 20 March, was a high-level segment on 11 and 12 March to review drug control since the Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly on drugs in 1998 (UNGASS).
During the session, the delegation of Laos has made a presentation on Lao activities made in the past one year to control and prevent drug. It also presented its direction which concentrating to build the national strategy for drug control from 2009-2013. The delegation also asked the friendly countries and international organizations to provide co-operation , supports and technical assistance in order to help Laos to implement the said strategy plan.
The Lao delegation has paid a courtesy visit to UNODC Executive Director Antonio Maria Costa where he advised Lao side to hold the meeting at the end of May and invites a number of diplomats and international organization and financial institutions Laos to attend. UNODC Executive Director Antonio Maria Costa also confirmed to participate in the said meeting.
The CND is the policy-setting body of UNODC in drug-control matters. Over 1,400 participants from 130 countries, international organizations and NGOs took part in the session.
