Lao-Chinese banks sign cooperative agreement on banking service
(KPL) Lao Development Bank and Chinese Agricultural Bank signed a cooperative agreement on providing payment services to customers who have trading stations along the common borders of the two countries.
The agreement was signed on 23 March between the Head of Lao Development Bank in Luang Namtha province, Mr. Sithone Bangsengthong, and Head of Foreign Service Department of Yunnan province, Zhou Shi Rong, a representative of Agricultural Bank of China.
The event was witnessed by Director General of Lao Development Bank, Ms. Bounta Daravee and an assistant of President of a branch of Chinese Agricultural Bank of Yunan province.
Ms Bounta said that under this agreement, the two agents would be providing financial services to customers and joint account services, so as to facilitate general payments and trade border payments, through the online banking system.
On the Lao side, the Lao Development Bank branch of Luang Namtha province is being assigned the task of providing such services and the Mohan Agricultural Bank of China branch would do likewise on the Chinese side.
Ms. Bounta said this agreement is a landmark as it would facilitate commerce and investment within the confines of the common border areas of the two countries.
