Workshop on Security Systems in Major Sporting Events

Doha, March 10 (QNA) - The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) and the Interpol organized in Doha today a project Stadia workshop. Representatives of the state's security bodies as well as security experts participated in the workshop. The two-day event will cover a number of important topics related to the State of Qatar's organization of the World Cup 2022, particularly the use of modern technology to secure the world cup matches. They also discussed how to use drones and robots for securing major sporting events. Senior Manager of Project Stadia Falah Abdullah Al Dosari said that the workshop hosted security officials from countries that have a great experience in hosting major sporting events like Russia, The Netherlands, and the United States. He added that the workshop aims to benefit from these experiences so that Qatar can use advanced technology in securing sporting facilities, as part of its preparation to host World Cup 2022. He noted that the workshop also reflects the importance of international partnership in the field of securing sporting events, stressing that the latter also plays an important role in presenting an image of the host nation. He said that project stadia is financed by the State of Qatar for 10 years. It supports all 194 Interpol member countries, particularly the ones that will host major sporting events. Meanwhile, Assistant director of security systems Ali Abdullah Al Suwaidi said that the workshop was the result of cooperation between the SC and the Interpol. He added that it sheds light on the potential for using technology in securing conferences and major sporting events. He highlighted that the security committee already has a strong cooperation with many international organizations, ahead of World Cup 2022. He noted that the State of Qatar is working on using technology for sports security, by exploring the experience of other countries in that regard, in addition to establishing partnerships with international organizations led by the Interpol. Established by INTERPOL in 2012 and funded by Qatar, the aim of Project Stadia is to create a Centre of Excellence to help INTERPOL member countries in planning and executing policing and security preparations for major sporting events. The 10-year project will contribute to policing and security arrangements for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and will leave a lasting legacy for the worlds law enforcement community. By bringing together good practices, successes and lessons learnt from member countries which have successfully hosted major international sporting events, the project can help future hosts strengthen their own preparations with the latest knowledge and expertise.
