LIPOSUCTION OPERATION A RISKY PROCEDURES

KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 (Bernama) -- The liposuction operation is a very risky procedure and that is why none of the government hospitals are offering such surgery, the National Population and Family Development Board's Reproductive Division Medical Officer, Dr Komathy Thiagarajan, said.

"If the treatment is not done properly, it can cause the liquidised fat to
enter blood vessels. If they go to the brain, they can cause a stroke and if
they go to the lungs, death will be inevitable," she told reporters Friday.

She was commenting on the death of a company managing director who died
following liposuction recently.

Dr Komathy said now the treatment was only available at private clinics or
medical centres.

However, she said one should look for a recognised medical centre to have
the procedure done to avoid untoward incidents.
