SUSPECTED BIRD FLU SUFFERER IN BANDUNG HOSPITALIZED

Bandung, March 30 (ANTARA) - A suspected bird flu sufferer, identified as Rajim (50) of Sarijaya village in Majalaya subdistrict, was admitted to the Hassan Sadikin hospital here at 8 local time on Sunday night.

The patient's wife, Rasiem (40), said on Monday her husband was treated earlier at Dewi Sri Karawang hospital but later transferred to Hasan Sadikin hospital on Sunday night.
"My husband was treated at Dewi Sri Karawang hospital but the doctors there had him transferred to Hasan Sadikin hospital to undergo intensive treatment," Rasiem said.
She said about two weeks ago many chickens in the area where she and her husband lived had died suddenly.
"Many chickens, our own as well as our neighbor's, died suddenly about two weeks ago," Rasiem said, adding that she had thrown her dead chickens into a river near her house.
She said several days after the incident, her husband, Rajim, had respiratory problems and high fever.
Meanwhile, a Hasan Sadikin hospital spokesman said Rajim's condition would be announced later at 3 on Monday afternoon.
