Squash Aim Four Golds At Philippine Sea Games

KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 (Bernama) – The Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) is aiming to win four gold medals at the Philippine SEA Games in November. SRAM coaching director, Major (Rtd) S. Maniam said that for the preparation, they would focus on four main events - men’s and women’s singles, mixed team, mixed doubles. “Preparation for the SEA Games is going in full swing and we are very happy with the way our players are progressing,” “We will be focusing on four events, and we are looking at four gold medals in these events,” he told reporters after the working committee meeting at the National Sports Council Tuesday. Maniam said that although SRAM has decided to register the second team, it is confident that the palyers have the credibility to produce gold medals. “I would like to say that our 2nd stringer is strong enough to achieve our goals,” he said. Meanwhile, Maniam noted that SRAM has a plan to offer national senior player Mohd Nafiizwan Mohd Adnan to join the coaching department as he had announced his retirement after 15 years as a professional player. He announced his retirement on Friday at the Asian Individual Squash Championships, after he lost to India’s Saurav Ghosal in the quarter final match. “Although Nicole's achievements will be hard to emulate, SRAM is confident that they are in the right track in developing young player,” he added. For the record, Malaysian squash team bagged six golds, four silver and two bronze in the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.
