RUSSIAN FINANCE MINISTER: AZERBAIJAN`S ECONOMY IS MOST RAPIDLY DEVELOPING IN CIS

Moscow, 1 April (AzerTAc). Azerbaijan has the most rapidly growing economy among the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, said Russia`s finance minister Alexei Kudrin.
Speaking to a gathering of CIS finance ministers in Moscow, Kudrin said: “In 2008 Azerbaijan`s economy grew 10.8 percent, the best record among the commonwealth`s countries, according to figures provided by the CIS statistical committee.”
“The country`s fixed capital saw a 34.7 percent increase. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development put Azerbaijan`s economic growth at 15 percent” Kudrin added.
Yuri Goden, a correspondent member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, said “for real, Azerbaijan is developing much more rapidly than other CIS countries”.
“Undoubtedly, decline in oil prices has had a certain impact on Azerbaijan`s economy, but nevertheless the country`s reserves allow it to tackle the situation with minimum losses suffered”
“Azerbaijan is actively cooperating with many countries, and it is also developing its non-oil sector,” said Goden.
According to a prognosis of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, in 2009 Azerbaijan will see its economy grow 8 percent. Experts say this means the country will not only manage to tackle the world`s financial crisis, but also develop its economy.
