DOCTORS REMOVE 4 KG OF TUMORS FROM WART WOMAN'S BODY
Bandung, W Java, April 2 (ANTARA) - Doctors succeeded in removing six tumors altogether weighing 4 kg from the back and calves of Yani Suryani (39) who has earned the nickname of `wart woman` at Hasan Sadikin Hospital here on Thursday.
"We succeeded in removing tumors weighing a total of more than 4 kg from her back and buttocks," Dr Hardi Siswo who led the doctors` team said after the surgery.
He said that Yani underwent the operation lying face down. She was laid face down to make the surgery process easier because the four tumors were located in her back and calves.
"The tumor in her back was the biggest one on Yani`s body weighing two kg and 130 ounces," Siswo told a press conference at the hospital`s plastic surgery unit`s secretariat on Thursday.
He said that during the surgery doctors did not encounter any significant problem. The fear of serious bleeding during the surgery process was not proven.
"It turned out that the operation was not as difficult as we imagined previously. Our fear that it could cause serious bleeding did not happen," he said.
Yani was taken out of her Bougenville treatment room of the hospital at 6 am and entered the surgery room on the third floor at 6.30 am on Thursday.
Last year, the Hasan Sadikin hospital also conducted an operation on a patient named Dede (37) who was dubbed `tree man` for the massive bark-like warts on his body.
The operation was carried out to remove the woody growths that had smothered his hands and feet.
The massive warts were diagnosed by a US dermatologist as the result of a combination of the human papilloma virus and a genetic disorder which his immune system was unable to fight off.***4***
