Exhibition on victory of Battle in Khalkh River opens in Ulaanbaatar

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. An exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Khalkhin Gol Battle (Battles of Khalkhin Gol) opened at the National Museum of Mongolia yesterday, August 12. Organized by the National Museum of Mongolia and the National Museum of the Republic of Buryatia of the Russian Federation, the exhibition is displaying more than 80 pieces from the National Museum of Mongolia related to the battle of Khalkhiin Gol, including military uniform of the Marshall Kh.Choibalsan, leader of the Mongolian People’s Republic, a handgun with silver pattern and nacre decoration on its grip, a sword of L.Dandar, a hero of the Khalkhiin Gol Battle, a gun used by hero of the Mongolian People’s Republic D.Nyantaisuren, a saddle bag of Ch.Dugarjav, a medal of G.Luvsan, Commissioner of the an armored brigade of the Mongolian Army and other weapons and historical photos dating back to the period. In addition, congratulatory letters, photos, diplomas and medals awarded to the soldiers as well as documents about Soviet and Buryat soldiers and newspaper pieces are brought from the Buryat’s National Museum to be shown at the exhibition. Specifically, an order No. 0068 by Georgy Zhukov, Commander of the First Soviet Mongolian Army Group dated 17 August 1939 for the fighting military units to assume attack position in order to destroy the Japan's Kwantung Army troops near the Khalkh River is unveiled at the exhibition. The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by G.Erdenebat, Head of the Cultural and Arts Authority of Mongolia, Rygzyn Rakshaev, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Mongolia, Director of the National Museum of Mongolia Dr. B.Sukhbaatar and Director of the National Museum of the Republic of Buryatia Tatiana Boronoeva. Director of the National Museum of Mongolia Dr. B.Sukhbaatar noted that the exhibition is one of the main activities within a broad celebration of the historical jubilee with aims to strengthen the friendly relations and cooperation between Mongolia and Russia and enhance the people-to-people ties of the two nations. “The 80th anniversary celebration is also intended to glorify and immortalize the heroic deeds of the Mongolian and Russian war veterans fought in the Khalkhiin Gol Battle” he added. Director of the National Museum of the Republic of Buryatia Tatiana Boronoeva said “The Victory in the Khalkh Gol is a history that cannot be forgotten by the people of the two countries. As we deem that it is important for our next generations to love their motherland, the Buryats never fail to remember the Battle. We are showing documents and rare historical items of the Buryat soldiers participated in the Battle of the Khakhiin Gol”. Historical documents imply that 75 thousand Mongolian and Soviet soldiers died or wounded during the Battle. Ms. T. Boronoeva mentioned that one in every eight soldiers fought in the Khalkhiin Gol Battle was Buryat. Noting that historical documents, records and photos confirming that 16 thousand people from Buryat took part in the battle are put on view for the public and thanked the Mongolian Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports and Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Buryatia for their support for organizing the exhibition. The exhibition runs until August 25.
