SITU GINTUNG VICTIMS MOVED TO KERTAMUKTI HOUSE

Jakarta, Apr 6 (ANTARA) - Tens of families, victims of the recent burst of Gintung Dam in Cirendeu, East Ciputat, Tangerang district, Banten province, were on Monday evacuated to Kertamukti House which is located several kilometers from the disaster site.

"Data from the field showed that 45 families or 152 people (had been evacuated to the house)," an information agent at the integrated command post for the Gintung disaster, Lamro Siregar, told ANTARA at the command post on Monday.
Gintung Dam burst on March 27, 2009, in the wee hours killing at least one hundred people and leaving hundreds of others missing.

According to Lamro, the data showed that actually it was not the total number of evacuees as it reached 295 families or 1,408 people.

He pointed out that some families preferred not to be moved to Kertamukti House prepared by the government.
"Some of them prefer renting a hous and some others live with their relatives," he said, adding that the number of victims living at Kertamukti House was expected to increase.
It was reported that the two row of barracks for the victims are still under construction.

South Tangerang Mayor, M Saleh, said the construction of the barracks has been completed only 80 percent and the victims for the time being given shelter in tents near the complex.
He said once the construction had been completed, every family would be given a room measuring 6x4 meters.
