Blackberry Storm makes UAE debut

Abu Dhabi, April 7, 2009 (WAM) - The first touchscreen BlackBerry smartphone, the eagerly-awaited Storm, was officially launched in the UAE last night according to a report in “Emirates Business.”
etisalat is the first telecom operator in the Gulf to supply the ultra-advanced business mobile. And Abdulla Hashim, Vice-President, Business Solutions, revealed that the number of BlackBerry subscribers signed up by the company in the UAE had topped the 100,000 mark.
"The smartphone has become very powerful and in the UAE we can see the trend is growing," said Hashim.
Khaled Kefel, General Manager, Middle East, of BlackBerry maker Research in Motion, revealed that the company's App World online application store was on its way here. The online store, which allows users to buy hundreds of Blackberry applications from a single source, was launched in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom on Wednesday.
"We are working together with etisalat to test the App World system," said Kefel.
The handset is priced at Dh3,150 plus data package from etisalat.
