ROUNDTABLE MEETING ON AZERBAIJAN`S MODERN GEOPOLITICS HELD IN FRENCH INSTITUTE FOR INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

Baku, April 9 (AzerTAc). A roundtable meeting on modern geopolitics of Azerbaijan was held Tuesday in French Institute for International Relations (IFRI).
Opening the meeting, Executive Director of IFRI Dominique David said from a geostrategic point of view Azerbaijan is a leader country in the South Caucasus region.
David stressed the necessity of transportation of Azerbaijan`s oil and gas to Europe.
Attending the event, head of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Azerbaijan Elkhan Nuriyev delivered a report on “Azerbaijan`s modern geopolitics: pragmatism of energy security and foreign policy.”
He said Azerbaijan had already become a reliable partner of foreign countries.
Nuriyev also told of the ongoing political and economic reforms in his country.
According to him, a new era began in Azerbaijan`s development under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.
Nuriyev noted his country pursues a balanced and pragmatic foreign policy. He pointed out “Azerbaijan, realizing such projects as Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum and Baku-Tbilisi-Kars, successfully integrate into the world economy.” He said the country supports peace and stability in region.
Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Nuriyev said the occupied territories of Azerbaijan must be liberated from the Armenian occupation.
He added granting Nagorno-Karabakh any status must be based on strict maintenance of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.

As part of the visit, Elkhan Nuriyev met with head of the France-Azerbaijan Friendship Group Jean-Louis Dumont and Director of the Institute for International and Strategic Relations Pascal Boniface to discuss ongoing processes in Azerbaijan, inter-parliamentary ties, cooperation between the two countries, exchange of trade, implementation of regional projects and other issues.
