Motorists get new tool for petrol prices

The NRMA has gone hi-tech in the fight against unfair petrol prices this Easter,
urging motorists to use a new website to dob in offending service stations.
According to the motoring body, the average price of unleaded petrol in Sydney
should not be any higher than 125 cents per litre (cpl) over the coming days, based
on the international benchmark price and the Australian dollar.
In regional areas of the state, the price would typically be four or five cents
higher than that.
Motorists in NSW and the ACT who see prices above 130cpl on service station price
boards are being asked to pull over and record the evidence, taking photos or video
with their mobile phone or camera and posting it on the new RoadTube site.
Motorists can also post a blog entry with the details.
NRMA Motoring & Services president Wendy Machin said motorists who encountered
over-inflated petrol prices this Easter long weekend could now do more than suffer
in silence.
"The NRMA will collate the reports from the motoring public and present them to the
Petrol Commissioner," she said in a statement on Thursday.
The site can be accessed at www.roadtube.com.au.
