According to information of the Ninth ICAAP's official website, the empowerment of people - both HIV-positive and HIV-negative vulnerable to HIV - and the strengthening of networks - faith-based organizations, communities, governments, regions, sectors, as well as individuals - are important components to addressing this change.
The 9th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific in Bali in August 2009 aims to address, among others, issues of mobility, migration, as well as gender and people with disabilities in order to empower the people and strengthen networks to effectively respond to AIDS.
The congress will bring people from various backgrounds in Asia and the Pacific region to meet and share knowledge, skills, ideas, research findings related to HIV and AIDS.
Specific objectives of the congress will be, among other things, to share expertise and knowledge on key issues critical to the control of HIV/AIDS in the region, and to advocate for greater political and societal commitment and accountability in promoting equal access to HIV and AIDS prevention, care and treatment for all.
