Third West Asian Paralympics Games to be postponed

Manama, Apr. 15 (BNA): The Executive Office of the West Asia Para Federation, chaired by President Dr. Abdel-Razzaq Bani Rashid, and the Organizing Committee of the 3rd West Asian Para Games, chaired by Shaikh Mohammed bin Duaij Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Bahrain Paralympic Committee, announced the postponement of the 3rd West Asian Para Games until February 2022. This follows the postponement of the Paralympic Games "Tokyo 2021" to July 2021 due to the coronavirus. The chairman emphasized the readiness of the Bahrain Paralympic Committee team from administrators to technicians for this tournament in all aspects. The decision was made during the first meeting of its kind for the Executive Office of the West Asia Para Federation, held online to follow the preventive and precautionary measures taken by the countries of the region to reduce the spread of coronavirus under the chairmanship of Dr. Abdul Razzak Bani Rashid. Shaikh Mohammed bin Duaij noted that Bahrain has become the host for many different sports tournaments and games, where the Kingdom received the approval of the Executive Office to organize the third edition of the West Asian Para Games immediately following the second edition, held last September in Amman. He also noted the Committee's decision to postpone the Para Games until after Tokyo 2021 was to ensure all athletes and participants of achieving their best results. Dr. Bani Rashid confirmed that all possible options for hosting the Games were discussed, taking into account that the dates would not clash with any other international tournament, and allow other countries in the region the opportunity to participate with the largest number of athletes.
