MOUNT ANAK KARAKATAU ERUPTS 175 TIMES



Serang, Apr 24 (ANTARA) - The frequency of Mount Anak Krakatau's eruptions reached 175 times, so that its status had been raised to level III, which is dangerous for visitors to the volcano.

Jumono, an official of the Mount Anak Karakatau monitoring team in Pasauran village, Cinangka sub-district, Serang district, said here Thursday that at present the mount was on alert status which is dangerous for visitors as it still caused volcanic tremors and eruptions.
Based on data from the monitoring instruments, the number of Wednesday's eruptions reached 175 times, volcanic quakes 23 times and tremors 87 times.
Therefore, visitors and fishermen are still not allowed to get close to the maintain peak for safety reasons.
The Volcanic, Mitigation and Geological Disaster Center (PVMBG) in Bandung told visitors and fishermen to keep at a safe distance of one kilometer from the mount.
"If we get close to the area of the mount, it is feared we will be affected by the outpouring of lava from the mount," Jumono said.
