DOMESTIC HELPER IN BEKASI KILLS EMPLOYER'S BABY

Cikarang, Bekasi, Apr 24 (ANTARA) - A female domestic helper attempted to commit suicide after killing the one-year-old child of her employer here on Wednesday, police said.

The head of the Bekasi police's criminal investigation unit, Adjunct Commissioner Susetyo Purnomo Condro, said here Thursday , the domestic helper, identified as Nanik Utami (20), strangled and smothered the toddler when it cried after being bathed.
When Nanik later realized she had killed Yosia Veronica Ginting, she panicked and tried to take her own life by cutting her right wrist with a knife and hanging herself with a rafia rope.
The incident happened at about 17.25 local time when Yosia's parents had not yet returned home from work.
Neighbors who had heard Yosia's loud wailing and become suspicious forced their way into the Gintings' home and found her body in bed and Nanik in a pool of blood and a rafia rope around her neck.
The neighbors then contacted the police who eventually took Yosia's body and Nanik to the Kramatjati Police Hospital. Yosia's body was to undergo an autopsy and Nanik medical treatment and psychiatric observation before being further investigated.
Yosia's mother, Eliana Tarigan (25), was an employee at a construction company and her father working for PT Suzuki in Bekasi district.
