65 acts of piracy registered since beginning of 2009, says official


SANA'A, May 02 (Saba)- Deputy Minister of transport for seaports
affairs Yasin al-Zamani said that 65 acts of the piracy were
registered in Aden Gulf since beginning of 2009.

In his statement to News Yemen website, al-Zamani said that the
under constriction center of combating piracy in Sana'a would
receive assistance from the regional centre of combating piracy in
Singapore.

He added that the new center would analyze information on incident
of piracy to send sign of alert in time of existing a risk of the
piracy.

On Monday, official sources said that two pirates were killed, one
injured, and eleven others were arrested when Yemeni naval forces
stormed and freed an oil tanker which was hijacked in the
pirate-plagued Gulf of Aden earlier this week.
