BERLIN, May 5 Kyodo -
Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso and German Chancellor Angela Merkel agreed
Tuesday on cooperation between their countries to tackle the global financial
crisis, Japanese officials said.
The two leaders also pledged cooperation on dealing with a new strain of
influenza.
Merkel promised Germany's efforts to help North Korea return to the process of
the six-party talks to denuclearize Pyongyang, they said.
Earlier on Tuesday, Aso delivered a speech at a university in Berlin calling
for boosting Japanese-European cooperation to help solve such global issues as
climate change, the financial crisis and terrorism.
He was on the second leg of his two-nation European tour which took him to the
Czech Republic.
Aso is due to return to Tokyo on Wednesday.
