NAJIB'S REFORMS CAN BRING SUCCESS - M'SIA FORMER PM

KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 (Bernama) -- Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said reforms in
policies introduced by his successor Najib Tun Razak can translate
into major success for the country.

Abdullah said he would contribute in whatever way possible because as his
successor, it was his responsibility to support Najib.

"To me, there is no other intention, apart from serving the nation, people
and religion. I retired as the Prime Minister and will carry out whatever
responsibility vested on me by Najib," he said at the "Jasamu DiKenang" (Your
Appreciation) ceremony held in honour of his retirement as the fifth Prime
Minister here Wednesday night.

The ceremony was graced by King Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin
and Queen Tuanku Nurzahirah.

Also present were Najib's wife Rosmah Mansor, Abdullah's wife
Jeanne Abdullah, deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and wife
Norainee Abdul Rahman, cabinet members, foreign diplomats, government
officers and dignitaries.

Abdullah said he had full confidence in Najib and had the capability of
providing good leadership.

"I felt very comfortable when I got a deputy who was loyal and sincerely
helpful. When I made the decision (to step down) I knew it would be Najib who
would replace me," he said.

He added that with the nation facing challenges as result of the global
economic crisis, it was important for Malaysians to be united and help realise
the plans that the government had laid out for the people.
