GUATEMALA THE LASTEST INFECTED WITH INFLUENZA A (H1N1)


KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 (Bernama) -- The number of countries infected with
influenza A (H1N1) has increased to 22 from 21 countries recorded yesterday,
when Guatemala officially reported its first influenza A (H1N1) case Wednesday.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) in its website as at 06:00 GMT Wednesday
(2 pm Malaysian time), said the number of cases reported worldwide had also
increased to 1,516 cases from 1,490 cases Tuesday.

The number of deaths from the influenza still remained at 30, with 29 from
Mexico and one from the United States.

In its latest update, WHO also reported the number of laboratory confirmed
human cases of infection in Mexico and the United States remained at 822 and 403
cases respectively while the cases reported in Canada and Germany had seen an
increase.

To date, WHO has still maintained the influenza pandemic alert level at
Phase 5 and did not recommend health, travel and trade restrictions and closure
of borders to any country.

At press time, there was no influenza A(H1N1) cases reported in Malaysia.
