SWEDEN 23RD COUNTRY TO REPORT INFLUENZA A(H1N1) CASE
KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 (Bernama) -- Sweden became the latest country to confirm
an influenza A(H1N1) case Thursday, bringing the total number of affected
countries to 23.
Health director-general Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said in a statement,
the World Health Organisation (WHO) reported that until midnight (Malaysian
time), the number of cases worldwide had risen to 1,893 cases, following an
increase of 403 cases from the previous count.
The number of deaths had risen to 31, with 29 of them in Mexico and two in
the United States.
WHO also reported 942 confirmed influenza A(H1N1) cases in Mexico from 822
cases the previous day, and the US having 642 cases.
Dr Mohd Ismail said WHO still maintained its influenza pandemic warning at
Level 5 and did not recommend any health, travel and trade prohibition or the
closure of borders for any country.
He said at the moment, Malaysia is still free from the disease infection.
