Qatar Wins Presidency of Human Rights Committee of the Arab League

Doha, April 27 (QNA) - The State of Qatar won the presidency of the Human Rights Committee of the League of Arab States (Charter Committee).
The Committee concluded its 53rd meeting, which was held virtually on Tuesday, and elected Counselor Jaber Al Huwail as Chairman of the Charter Committee and Ambassador Nadia Jefoun (Sudan) as Vice-Chairman of the Committee.
After his election as Chairman of the Committee, Counselor Jaber Al Huwail expressed his pride in the confidence entrusted to him by his colleagues, members of the Committee, and looked forward to contributing to the development of the Committee's work and achieving its goals.
Al Huwail served as Vice-Chairman of the Arab Human Rights Committee from 2017 to 2019. He contributed to enriching the discussions of the reports of the Arab states parties to the Charter.
The Charter Committee consists of seven members who work in their personal capacity. They are elected by the states parties to the Charter for a period of four years by secret ballot, provided that they are highly qualified and experienced.
The Committee includes in its current session members from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Sudan and Lebanon. (QNA)
