BAKU HOSTS INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON APPLICATION OF GLOBAL SATELLITE NAVIGATION SYSTEMS
Baku, May 11 (AzerTAc). An international symposium on areas for application of global satellite navigation system has started here today at the Ramada hotel.
The event is organized by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (OOSA) was attended by 50 representatives from some 32 countries including Rector of the Azerbaijan National Aviation Academy Arif Pashayev, Chairman of the High Attestation Commission Arif Mehdiyev as well as OOSA program manager Hans Haubold, Deputy Director of the US Department of State`s Office of Space and Advanced Technology Ken Hodgkins.
Speaking at the event ICT Minister Ali Abbasov noted the first observatory in the Orient was created in Azerbaijan by Nasreddin Tusi in Maraga. Abbasov noted Azerbaijan is keen on applying space navigation systems. He pointed out the draft state program on navigation system development was prepared and submitted to the government.
Also speaking at the event were OOSA program manager Hans Haubold, US Department of State representative Ken Hodgkins, European commission representative Helmut Spitzl and others.
The conference will last until May 15.
