Laos hopes to get gold medals from petanque

(KPL) Laos hopes getting gold medals from petanque as much as possible at the SEA Games 2009, which is one of popular sport in Laos. Lao Petanque team won two gold medals and five bronze medals from the 24th SEA Games in Thailand 2007 and the Lao Petanque team also hoped to get more gold medals at the 25th SEA Games to be held in Vientiane from 9-18 December.
Deputy President and General Secretary of National Petanque Federation Mr Khamla Vinlaythong recently said, ‘Currently, the federation has already selected petanque players for the National Team playing at the 25th SEA Games. The team comprises 30 players, of whom15 people are women players including the two gold medalists Vathanasay Khamnphavong and Chansamone Vongsavath and all players started practicing since February at the Stadium of National University of Laos.In September the national team will compete at the Petanque Champion Cup in Nhong Khai province, Thailand.
In November, all players of Lao National Petanque Team will participate in the Asian Pacific and World Petanque Championship in Souphanboury province, Thailand.
At the end of November, the Lao National Petanque Team will also participate in a competition at the Indoor Games in Vietnam before joining the biggest competition at the 25th SEA Games in Vientiane.“During three months training, our players are well in practicing under the rule of the federation and all players pay attention in practicing with spirit that we hoped to get gold medals as much as possible”, Mr Khamla said.
