KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia was the top importer of Pakistan products from South East Asia during the six months period from July to December 2008, importing goods valued at US$68.65 million (US$1=RM3.51).
According to a data released by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan,
with the figure, Malaysia was also among the top forty destinations
of Pakistani exports and the 24th largest importer of its goods worldwide.
The Philippines followed in second place with import of US$39.09 million,
Thailand (US$ 39.01 million) and Vietnam (US$35.01 million).
In a statement here Monday, Acting High Commissioner for Pakistan in
Malaysia, M. Jamshaid Iftikhar said the substantial increase in import by
Malaysia reflected the confidence of local businessmen and investors in the
business and investment friendly policies of the Pakistan government.
Among the products Malaysia imported from Pakistan were cotton fabrics,
ready made garments, textiles, cotton yarn, cotton fabric, knitted fabrics and
synthetic textile.
Meanwhile, Pakistan High Commission commercial counsellor Majid Qureshi said
the Malaysia Pakistan Closer Economic Participation Agreement had also provided
enormous opportunities to Malaysian importers to forge business alliances with
exporters from Pakistan.
