WOMEN'S SQUAD TO COMPETE IN ASIAN RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP
KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 (Bernama) -- Although the national women's rugby squad was only formed in February, it had received the confidence of the Malaysian Rugby Union (MRU) when it was given the mandate to compete in the Asian Women's Seven-A-Side Rugby Championship in Pattaya, Thailand beginning May 30.
Its coach, Haflil Feisol (rpt:Haflil Feisol) hoped that his wards would be
able to learn from the exposure at the two-day championship.
"The participation is a form of early exposure for the team and I'm
confident they are fully ready to face the challenge," he told reporters, here
Monday.
He said the players would be able to meet several strong teams in Asia such
as the Chinese rugby team.
"As preparation for the championship, we had been training every day for the
past four weeks to achieve better understanding," he said.
The national women's squad comprised 12 players who will be competing
against 14 other teams such as Japan, Uzbekistan, India and Iran.
