M'SIA'S FOREIGN MINISTER TO VISIT UNITED STATES




KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 (Bernama) -- Foreign Minister Anifah Aman will
make a working visit to Washington DC, United States on May 14-15 at the
invitation of his counterpart, Hillary Rodham Clinton, the US Secretary of
State.

Wisma Putra (Foreign Ministry)in a statement here Tuesday said that Anifah
was scheduled to meet Clinton on May 14 where he was expected to discuss various
issues of common interests, including exploring new areas of cooperation to
enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.

Apart from meeting with the Secretary of State, Anifah is also expected to
meet Senator Richard Lugar, ranking member of the US Senate Foreign Relations
Committee.

Kuala Lumpur and Washington have had very congenial bilateral relations and
the two countries share a diverse and expanding partnership.

The economic ties between both nations have been encouragingly robust.

The US is Malaysia's largest trading partner and Malaysia is the
10th largest trading partner of the US.

Annual two-way trade amounts to US$49 billion. The US and Malaysia began
negotiations for a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) in June 2006.
