TRAFFIC DISPERSAL SCHEME FOR KL
KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 (Bernama) -- City Hall will spend RM110 million to implement a traffic dispersal scheme involving six projects around KL Sentral to rid the place of severe traffic congestion.
Federal Territories Minister Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said City
Hall would embark on the scheme next month and it was expected to be fully
completed in two years.
The projects that would be carried out are building of a flyover; two ramps;
overhead bridges; and upgrading of roads.
"This project is in line with the 1Malaysia concept whereby the people come
first and is joint effort between the ministry and City Hall to alleviate
traffic congestion in Kuala Lumpur," he told reporters here Thursday.
Raja Nong Chik said City Hall was also building a tiered interchange to
smoothen traffic flow along some roads so that motorists would not be bogged
down by traffic lights.
The RM83.7 million project commenced on March 23 and is scheduled for
completion in September 2011.
The minister said City Hall was also studying the possibility of relocating
Hentian Puduraya to a more suitable place like Bandar Tasik Selatan if the Plaza
Rakyat project adjacent to the bus hub could not be continued.
As a temporary measure, some of the buses stopping at Hentian Puduraya would
be diverted to an area near Jalan Hang Tuah and they would only go to the
terminal to pick up and drop passengers, Raja Nong Chik said.
Earlier, Raja Nong Chik who was accompanied by Kuala Lumpur Mayor Ahmad Fuad
Ismail had made a visit to the project sites. (US$1=RM3.50)
