20-MEMBER MALAYSIAN ARMED FORCES MEDICAL MISSION LEAVES TO WESTERN SAHARA
KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 (Bernama)-- A 20-member Malaysia Medical Unit (MMU) from the Malaysian Armed Forces, the seventh mission since 2006, leaves to Western Sahara for a six-month medical aid mission from May 22 to Nov 22.
The current delegation would replace another 20-member delegation of MMU who
would complete their term next Friday (May 22) under the United Nations Mission
for Referendum in Western Sahara (Minurso) and return home.
Joint Forces Commander Leftenan General Allatif Mohd Noor said the presence
of the Malaysian Armed Forces in Western Sahara has entered its fourth year and
that the previous six missions had performed their duties exceptionally well.
"The United Nations' trust in the presence of the Malaysian Armed Forces
since 2006 to provide medical aid shows the competency of our members," he told
reporters during his sending off speech at Wisma Transit here Thursday.
Allatif also reminded the members of the mission to uphold the principle of
the country's "1Malaysia, People First, Performance Now" slogan introduced by
Prime Minister Najib Razak.
He reminded the members of the mission to uphold the image of the country
while providing services as they are regarded as ambassadors of the nation.
