ASEAN and ASEAN+3 Senior Labour Officials meet in Vientiane
(KPL) The Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare organized a meeting for the 6th ASEAN and ASEAN+3 Senior Labour Officials from 12 to 13 May, in Vientiane.
This meeting reviewed the Vientiane Action Programme and the results of the 20th ASEAN Labour Ministerial
meeting in Bangkok and the delegates discussed the financial global crisis.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, Mrs Onhchanh
Thammavong, Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, said that while labour is an important factor in the economy of any country but the global financial situation has been most unsettling for the workers and some of them were suffering because they had become unemployed.
Mrs Onhchanh said that the Lao government’s policy is to promote small and medium businesss and to increase
employment in the country.
The Lao government, she said is taking a keen interest on developing its pool of artisans and promoting gender equality in the work place.
